Happy Wednesday!!!! Hope you’re all having a lovely week so far 🙂
When in Rhodes it was impossible not to want to head into the town for the day. So we set off for our bus and off we went. It didn’t take long to get there from Faliraki centre, I’d say around 30 mins. When coming into the town you could see Rhodes castle and I instantly knew I wanted to explore.
The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean’s eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island’s other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile long island.
Once we got off the bus we wandered down to the port and had a walk around. After a short walk we decided to head into the centre and grab a light lunch. We walked around all shops shortly after before heading back down to the port/harbour, where we decided to go on a bus trip around Rhodes Town and the Old town. This was a hop on hop off bus that I think cost us about €5 each (I think I can’t quite remember). This took us around the Medieval city, past the castle, past the Ancient olympic stadium and into the town centre, before bringing us back round to where we started.
Once we were back in the old town we decided to wander around the castle before heading into the old town market.
We made the mistake of walking around the lower grounds instead of inside the castle, but it was a very pleasant walk and there wasn’t that many people around. We were brought out near the old town market so we went for a wander around there before heading back and going back to Faliraki.
We sadly didn’t stay until it got dark, which was a shame as they light up the castle, and it looks very pretty (I googled photo’s). Overall though we had a fabulous day explore Rhodes old town, and I highly recommend anyone to visit if they go to Rhodes. There’s so much to see and do!.
What’s your fave thing to do on holiday?
