|Sunderland’s Restaurant Week 2018|

Happy Monday Everyone!.

Restaurant week in my home city is almost upon us and last week I got to sample a few of the venue’s that are taking part!. City of Sunderland is one of this year’s finalist for the City of Culture and whilst we didn’t win the bid, we have some fabulous restaurants offering a wide range of tastes. Restaurant week starts from the 17th of March until the 25th March and there is a wide choice of cafe’s and bars that are getting involved as well as restaurants. Many places taking part are offering deals so make sure you check out what’s on offer, you won’t want to miss out!. Use the tag #EatDrinkSunderland on twitter to find out more! or check out this website: http://www.sunderlandbid.co.uk

El Nido a little independent Mexican restaurant. The name ‘El Nido’ means nest and it’s a lovely little place in Frederick street. We all met here and were treated to canapés and cocktails. I love the fact that they use all fresh and local ingredients in their dishes. I tired a little of what was on offer even though I’m not a huge fan of Mexican food and quite enjoyed it, however it was a little too spicy for me.

Deal’s from El Nido are: Starter & burrito  or two tacos for £10. You can also add in a dessert, or cocktail for £15.

No.2 Church Lane. I keep meaning to try this place as I walk past it daily on my way to work and have heard many great things about the food and drinks, so I was excited when I saw it was on our list. This little gem offer’s not only food for meat lovers but food for vegetarians and vegans!. There’s literally something for everyone here. There burgers not only look good bust taste good too, the side chips are also to die for especially the cheesy chips wow!. We also sampled starters such as onion rings and halloumi fries. Not only do they serve up great food they have a great range of beers and cocktails on the menu as well, which is a bonus. I tried their Candy Martini cocktail and it went down a treat!.

Deals from Church Lane are: Burger & fries for £5, two courses for £10, or three courses for £15.

The Engine Room. This is a place that’s just been renovated and it actually used to be Sunderland’s old fire station. It’s Sunderland’s hottest new bar and bistro and I can certainly see why!. It’s even had the Royal approval of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as Will and Kate recently visited. I love that they have tried to keep some of the original decor as they can, and it’s simply such a stunning venue. Food that was on offer included good ol’ fish and chips, burgers, vegan curry (which tasted amazing!) and ice cream. There porn star martini and salted caramel ones are simply 2 of my faves. I can’t wait to head back in the summer to try more!. They also offer a vegan ice cream as well.  A must try if your ever in the city!.

Deals on offer: Three courses for £15.

The Peacock

Another renovated building as it used to be known as ‘The Londonderry’ and is the sister restaurant/pub to The Engine Room. It’s stylish decor creates a relaxing atmosphere and there desserts well were right up my alley!. We sampled there jam rolly poly’s, carrot cake and chocolate brownies accompanied with jaffa cake ice cream!!!!! Not a lot to offer dessert wise however they do serve pub grub and Sunday lunch.
