Happy Saturday, I hope you all have a lovely weekend planned!.
On Tuesday I was very kindly invited to sample some beautiful food in some of Sunderland’s fabulous restaurants, ahead of restaurant week which starts TODAY and last until next Saturday (16th). I love being invited to these events as despite living in Sunderland I always tend to go to the same places for food, so these events help me broaden where I eat and discover new hidden gems in my hometown!.
Each restaurant that is taking part in restaurant week offers different deals and diners will be able to indulge into two and three course set menus for £10/£15pp, what a fab offer!
Staters – The Peacock Formally known as The Londonderry.
I love the new decor in this place and it’s menu is amazing and very reasonably priced. Offering some good old pub classics: Traditional fish and chips, Scampi and chips and Steak and Ale pie, to the more modern chargrilled kebabs and house burgers. Pasta is also on the menu!. There really is something for everyone. The staff were so friendly as well in here, they really made you feel at home!.
So lets talk starters!
We were teated to a selection of BBQ chicken wings with a tangy BBQ sauce (£6.00), Home made nachos with melted cheese, salsa, sour cream and of course guacamole (£8.00) and a little palmer ham salad with bread. The also do home made soup of the day for only £4.00 and breaded garlic mushrooms for £5.00. I adored these starters but for me my favourite was of course the nachos!, I’m a huge fan of nachos and these are simply divine!. I’ve never tasted nachos like that as they weren’t the usual doritos that you get in most places.
Restaurant week deal: Two courses for only £10! what a blooming bargain.
Mains at The Grosvenor Casino
I would never of thought about going to a casino for food or that they even served food. They offer a great selection of main courses from Cod and chips to Hunter’s chicken, Roast vegetable Couscous to a classic Caesar salad. They also offer a selection of vegan and vegetarian food as well which is think is great as again it proves that there is something for everyone!.
I chose the cod and chips and it was so tasty!. All of the food served looked really nice and well presented which is what you want when you go out for a nice meal. Presentation is key and this place really stepped up in terms of that.
Restaurant Week Deal : £12 you can get yourself an alcoholic drink, a main course AND a cinema ticket!. The casino is situated opposite the cinema so its really a fabulous deal and a deal I think they have on all the time but I’m not 100% sure on that.
Desserts at The Looking Glass
My new favourite place. It’s an Alice in Wonderland themed cafe that does offer an lovely range of alcoholic beverages as well as teas, coffee’s and delicious hot chocolates. The owner is this lovely place is very friendly and welcoming and his staff were a delight too. I love that it’s open on an evening too which is sometime a lot of people won’t know.
They offered a lovely range of desserts from the good old classic chocolate cake to carrot cake, chocolate and orange cake to rocky roads. As you can see I opted for one of my faves at the moment which is a rocky road!. It was simply scrumptious!. Highly recommend it.
And that’s my evening sampling delicious foods. I had a fabulous evening and went home ( more like rolled home) feeling extremely full and satisfied!. There’s also some places in Sunderland that is taking part in restaurant week that I have my eye on and can’t wait to visit, throughout the week, so make sure you check them out as well :). I love that Sunderland is upping there restaurant game and that more eating places have opened up throughout the city not just in the city centre!. Showing people that Sunderland can be a great place to visit.
What is your fave food to eat? Mine has to be (aside from the nachos) an good old classic Italians, pizza and pasta what is there not to love ❤
