Happy first day of March!
I simply can’t believe that we are into our third month of the year already, and whilst it feels super long with the lockdown still in place I just can’t believe it’s March! I’m feeling optimistic about March especially with the Prime Minister setting out his roadmaps March has some key dates that I hope doesn’t set us back. Anyhoo let’s chat February. February was a bit of a meh month as we had a lot of bad weather days which meant I didn’t go out on walks as much as I did in January but nevertheless I thought I share what I got up to.
It finally snowed in Sunderland and whilst it was lovely when it first came down I was sick of the sight of it after a few days and was pleased when it had gone. I love the snow when it’s fresh of the ground and hasn’t been walked on however I hate it when it starts to melt and it turns into ice and slush. I did however get out and walk to another local park in my area called back house park. It’s just so pretty here when it snows and it’s just the prettiest back drop.
Other than visiting this park for a snow day I did walk around the streets for my daily walks and to get my steps in. At the beginning of the month I set myself a little walking challenge, I downloaded a step tracker and was determined to go for a walk every day, but with the bad weather some days I just walked around my house to get my steps in haha. In total I have done 118,230 steps which is 46.7 miles, not bad considering I didn’t think I’d walk that much. When I was a kid I used to really hate walking but now I kinda like getting out in the fresh air for an hour or so. Makes your mind feel clearer.
I absolutely love pancake day always have down always will do. I decided to go with American style pancakes and stack them rather than my usual crepe style ones. Either style of pancakes will do me I love erm all!. This was my stack and I must admit I was a little proud of hoe this turned out!. I went with Nutella and strawberries with a bit of whipped cream onto, which I might add kept sliding off the pancakes as it was just melting with the heat but they tasted incredible.
After receiving a photo album 6 years for my birthday I’ve finally filled it! I forgot how much I love printing my photos and sticking in an album scrap book style. I found it very relaxing and it passed some time away. It was also lovely to look back at my photos and remember the memories. I finally got round to printing my holiday snaps from 2017! I’ve promised myself that every month or so I will sit down and print photos for my albums rather than them getting lost on my hard drive. Lets see if I actually stick to it as usually I take lots of photos of my days out ect, but only use one or two for my Instagram then they get put onto my hard drive and never seen again unless I’m looking for a photo, this way I can just take an album off the shelf and have a good flick through it now and again.
This beautiful places is also know as Finchale Abbey and was a 13th century Benedictine priory. It’s a listed building that is part of the English Heritage. The remains are sited by the River Wear and is in-between Durham and Sunderland. We walked along the river which was VERY muddy and slippy before having a little walk around the ruins. This place was a little busy but easy to socially distance from others, it was mainly kids running off there energy and parents finding a little spot to sit and observe. As you can see it was a dull day weather wise AND it even began to rain but that didn’t put us off and it was lovely to get out and stretch our legs for half an hour.
Signs of spring
February meant the crocuses were out in full bloom well on a sunny day at least!. We missed the snowdrops this year but back house park was full as it is most years of crocuses. The display of them is usually better than it is but, because a few weeks ago we had the snow and people we sledging down the bank it’s killed off a lot of them but it still looked pretty. I also loved that the weather was warm enough for me to leave the house without a coat on!. It felt lovely and very spring like. I can’t wait for warmer weather the last few days we’ve had sunshine and it’s been glorious. We started to clean up our garden ready for spring and summer and I can’t wait start painting the garden fence!.
I’ve also been binge watching One tree hill this month and I’m now halfway through series 7. I used to watch it when it was first on TV many moons ago but I never knew how it ended as I only seen the first few series so I am loving it!. I’m still reading Midnight sun as well which I am very nearly finished which I’m sad about as it’s a really good book. I also attempted to bake cookies which for a first attempt turned out lovely despite them turning into very large cookies and not how the photo of them in the recipe looked. I can’t wait to bake another batch!.
What have you been up to in February? I’d love to know.
Thank you for reading xxx
